Errata

Dr. Ann Schoenfeld of the Pratt Institute has drawn my attention to the fact that Lester Beall's iconic REA posters are misdated in the text and captions. On page 268, "Rural Electrification-Radio" is correctly dated in the text (1937) but the 7.22 caption reads"1937-41," a timeframe that encompasses all of Beall's posters for the REA. Both the text on page 268 and caption 7.23 on page 269 give the incorrect date of 1937 for the "Kids on a fence" poster; the correct date is 1939. Anyone with an interest in Beall should of course turn to the works of R. Roger Remington, especially his book Lester Beall Trailblazer of American Graphic Design (W. W. Norton, 1996).
